St Peter’s School, York, has once again been featured in The Cricketer Schools’ Guide, featuring the top 100 senior, the top 50 prep/junior and the top 20 all-girls schools in the country.
The guide features both St Peter’s 8-13, as one of the top 50 prep/junior schools, and St Peter’s 13-18, as one of the top 100 senior schools.
It follows an exhaustive process which saw a huge number of schools submit entries to be included in the guide. All entries were judged against an extensive set of criteria, which included a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes, and coaching.
Also taken into account was how schools kept the game alive during the pandemic, and how they look to ensure cricket remains a central part of school life.
Gareth Sharp, Head of Cricket at St Peter’s, said: “We are delighted to be included again in the 2022 Cricketer’s Schools’ Guide. It is testimony to the hard work of all our coaching staff, our grounds team, and above all the dedication of the boys and girls on our winter and summer programs. After a tricky 18 months with its various spins and uneven bounces; we are looking forward to getting back business as usual and have some very exciting plans to further enhance our individual players and squads for next summer.”
Jeremy Walker, Head Master of St Peter’s School, said: “I am delighted to see the excellence of cricket at St Peter’s being recognised once again by The Cricketer. Cricket is a fantastic sport for our boys and girls, and we are fortunate in having such a strong heritage in the game.”
The Cricketer magazine editor Huw Turbervill said: “It has been incredibly heartening to see schools cricket making such a comeback after a very different 2020.
“Congratulations to all of the schools included and we look forward to hearing about all of your future successes.”
