St Peter's is very proud of its sporting tradition and physical activity is a dynamic feature of life at the school.
With our excellent facilities, including multi-surface pitches, two sports centres, a gymnasium, and indoor swimming pool, extensive playing fields, a boathouse, netball courts and tennis courts, the school's reputation for producing competitive teams and individuals across a range of sports is renowned.
The aim of the St Peter's Sports Programme is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for the enjoyment and wellbeing of all, from enthusiastic beginners to top athletes.
Active Programme from Early Years
Alongside team games, the school offers a challenging and diverse programme of sports and physical activities.
Fostering a positive relationship with sport and exercise begins in our Nursery and continues throughout the school.
For younger pupils there is a fun and challenging physical education curriculum. For older pupils we offer options as well as the core team sports including squash, gym, running, badminton, body conditioning and yoga.

Team Sports
Team sports receive great engagement from our pupils and are an integral part of our sporting culture. Participation is encouraged at all ages and all levels, with opportunities to play in competitions and tournaments throughout the year.

High Performance
The school has a long history of producing high performing teams and individual athletes. Despite not offering sports scholarships, we regularly compete in national competitions with our home-grown talent.
Frequently Asked Questions
All pupils are expected to take part in the school physical education and sports curriculum as part of the school week.
Many of our pupils continue with sporting commitments outside school and we have strong links with local sports clubs to ensure that training in and out of school complement one another. We are happy to create strength and conditioning programmes for older pupils who are competing at a high performance level in other sports outside school. We are also happy to discuss commitments for competitions and other events which may take place in school hours.
There is a huge range of sports and physical activity on offer at St Peter's and we believe that there is something for everyone. Teams sports are played at all levels from complete beginner to the highest level and there are many other physical activities for pupils to choose from as they progress through the school. We also recognise that a positive approach to physical fitness has benefits for learning, wellbeing and mental health and give pupils skills and interests for life.
Yes. Participation is key at St Peter's and we welcome complete beginners all the way through to high performing athletes. We are lucky to have multiple teams representing the school at all levels and ensure that training and fixtures are tailored to their needs.
