National Storytelling week truly inspired our learning at St Peter's 2-8.
As part of National Storytelling week, our Year 1 children created their own puppet characters from their theme story ‘The Wild Robot ‘ showing their creativity and imagination. In addition to their text 'The Wild Robot', pupils read 'The Tin Forest' and created some beautiful tin foil forests using leaves and drawing forest creatures. The children also designed tin foil boats to see how many pennies it would hold and designed a bridge that could hold the weight of a toy car made only out of foil!
Earlier this term Year 1 also experimented with making their own tempera paint using egg yolks to add a shine to their art. Some pupils used their theme book the Wild Robot for inspiration... We think the author Peter Brown would love it!
Year 2's story during storytelling week was 'Fox Beware', which looks at the problem of a fox having to move habitat due to houses being built. Pupils used art Wednesday to try and make their own illustrations for the story, using as many different art materials as they could find. Mrs Hall's example used paint, pencil crayon, pastel and felt tip.
It was a busy week for Year 3! Pupils were very excited about their Jungle Book text and to kick start National Storytelling Week, they excitedly watched the Disney Film. They then mapped out the story, wrote character descriptions and made collages of their favorite characters. After that, they gathered props and set their backdrop for their big re-telling of the story! The children did an amazing job.
Year 3 even received a special message from a famous film critic who had seen the wonderful films that they created as part of National Storytelling Week! He gave everyone a 5* review and told them that he had high hopes of them become Bafta-winning film producers in the future.
Pupils at St Peter's love books. During lockdown, this is no different, as pupils embrace the new normal with their Friday afternoon story-time moving onto Zoom. The children get to cuddle up with their favourite soft toys while Mrs Hall reads them a book virtually... Now that's what we call home comforts!
