Year 1 have been learning about the importance of a healthy eco-system in the oceans and the vital role that sharks, as the apex predator, play in this. The children researched different types of sharks and they found out that most sharks are harmless to humans. This made them question why sharks had such a bad reputation and it spurred them on to change that opinion about sharks. Our pupils learnt about the benefits of eco-tourism where people can pay to swim with sharks and this makes them more valuable alive and they become protected. They are so passionate about this cause and want to raise awareness that our apex predator is becoming more and more endangered due to overfishing and shark finning. They have made this 'jaws-ome' video!
"100 million sharks are killed a year and if they die, our oceans will die!" - Charlotte
"I want people to know that most sharks are harmless and we need to learn to love them and protect them because they are so important." - Bertie
