We are so proud of our potential Arkwright Scholars, Will, Meriel and Scarlett who are through to the interview stage of their Arkwright Engineering Scholarship applications, having scored highly in their Aptitude Exam.

The scholarship follows a rigorous selection process designed to identify the highest-calibre school students in the UK who have a strong academic and practical ability in technical subjects. The much-coveted scholarships are widely respected by academia and industry; as well as receiving a financial award of £300 per year to help with the cost of materials, equipment and activities to optimize their studies, scholars are paired with a professional Engineering Mentor and get access to exclusive events and connect days to assist them with their career progression. Congratulations to them and all students who applied and benefited from the experience.

Learn more about our passionate pupils below:

Will
''I have always been fascinated by military technologies. I have friends currently serving in Her Majesties Armed Forces, and through defence engineering I see that I would be able to support them better than I could by directly joining them''

''My GCSE Design & Technology project is designed for the frontline police officers who have to deal with deadly situations every day. It is aimed to give them a tactical advantage in situations involving firearms, with the intention of bringing down numbers of Officer Related deaths aswell as officers killed in line of duty.''

''I aim to study at the University of Lincoln on their BSc of Engineering Management. It offers the best of both practical experience and theoretical understanding as I could be studying whilst serving with the British Army and includes a module on Integrating Leadership and Management Experience.''

Scarlett
''I am passionate about biomedical engineering because it affects people first-hand.''

''My GCSE Design & Technology project is designed to improve water safety in residential pools by being placed on the pool edge and having a laser pointer attached and be pointing through the pool under the surface of the water. When the laser is intercepted (such as someone falling in) an alarm is triggered to alert others.''

''I would like to enroll at Imperial College London and work towards getting a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering. In the 4th year, I'd finish my degree on a year abroad at the National University of Singapore.''

Meriel
''My GCSE Design & Technology project aims to aid parents of children with severe allergies to keep their children safe and prepared for allergic reactions. The project focuses on keeping an EpiPen, and vital medical information, accessible and noticeable at all times, whilst simultaneously protecting the EpiPen.''

''I'm interested in the MEng Design Engineering course at Imperial College London. This course has particular emphasis on manufacturing techniques and product development, and in the 3rd and 4th year you are able to specialise into a branch of design engineering.''
