St Peter's 8-13 Year 8 pupils held their annual Enterprise Fair in the last week of term. Some stalls sold out in 7 minutes! Handmade rulers and tote bags were on sale and savvy pupils had created radio jingles and TV ads to market their goods.
The Enterprise project has run for a number of years but has evolved over this time. It is a collaborative project between the DT and English departments but also works with music and ICT. The pupils are put into 'companies' and have to then create designs for a range of sublimation products; additionally, they can pitch for a cottage industry product to make and sell themselves. They then write a bid, to convince the staff that they should be awarded a specific product. These are then allocated - with some teams having to go back to the drawing board with their designs if their pitch was unsuccessful.
Once they have a product, they then have to work on producing a brand and a design that can be applied using the sublimation technique or start making their items (cottage industries have produced rings, cuddly toys, cacti pots, airpod holders...). The team also has a range of other jobs to help promote and sell their products including TV adverts, radio adverts, websites, PPT posters, point of sale stalls as well as newsletter information and formal letters requesting permission to host their website.
The adverts are shown in assembly the week prior to the fair, and then the doors open for one hour for parents and pupils to buy. In the past (Covid times) we sold through their websites, but this year this was purely for marketing purposes.
The winning teams (four) will have shown skills in the design process, collaboration, TV and Radio adverts, the portfolio, and also the profit made. The teams also do a one-off design which is raffled for charity. This year the charity was for Ukraine and raised around £400.
