Our fantastic Art teachers Chris Hall and Hazel Battersby have teamed up with a parent, Georgie Britton to put on a spectacular show of artwork in the new exhibition “Land and Sea”. The launch night of 24 November saw many paintings snapped up for Christmas presents, with a portion of each sale going towards the St Peter’s Keys for Life charity.
Next week will be the last chance to view and purchase something before the exhibition closes on the 15 December, so if you have some Christmas shopping still to do, there will be hot drinks and mince pies on Monday 11 December at the Whitestone Gallery between 4 – 5pm as you view what’s on offer.
A bit about the artists
Hazel Battersby
Hazel Battersby’s paintings are inspired by landscape but remain essentially abstract. Inspiration often comes from visiting remote locations within the UK, observing, and experiencing the landscape. Through exploration of mark, drawing and collage, both abstract and descriptive properties develop, and as they extend into paintings this continues to shift and change. The work draws inspiration from the experience of landscape but develops through the physical process of painting. Hazel Studied at The Glasgow School of Art and exhibits throughout the UK.
Georgie Britton
Georgie Britton is a contemporary landscape painter who lives and works in North Yorkshire.
Often working in series, Georgie's paintings evolve from the core reference material into a spontaneous and expressive painting approach, finally slowing to a more considered conclusion, with the balance of colour and composition directing the process.
Georgie is a graduate of Central Saint Martins, London and enjoys exhibiting throughout the UK.
Chris Hall
Chris Hall uses printmaking, and in particular lino etching to make large expressive relief surfaces that are overlaid to create depth that hint at the rich and varied Yorkshire landscape.
The intention is to create a sense of place without direct reference to it.
Chris has taught Art at St Peter’s for over 30 years, where he specialise in printmaking. Chris trained at Hull College of Art, Leeds and Manchester universities and has an MA in Printmaking from Leeds Metropolitan University.
