Last Sunday, the York School's Chess Competition took place at Bootham. In the primary competition, St Peter's were defending their title and they put up a valiant effort with the A team finishing 2nd and the B team finishing 4th. A huge thank you goes to Mr Maltby for co-ordinating the teams and supervising them on the day.
On Tuesday St Peter's took 6 teams (24 players in total) to QEGS to participate in the HMC North East U9 & U11 Chess Competitions. With 19 teams in the U11 competition and 17 teams in the U9 one, it was very competitive with an impressive standard of play. After 6 rounds it was very close between the teams, and in the U9s the A team of Bertie R, Mason M, Aaron W-B and James A came an impressive 3rd, while the U11 A team of Alexei S, Tom B, Charlie R and Max P battled their way to 4th place. A special mention goes to Aaron who won all his matches. All the players did very well in keeping their focus and concentration going throughout the day.
