St Peter's 13-18 Staff

Starting at a new school can be daunting, and this year has been an especially strange start to term after the challenges of lockdown. Therefore we would like to introduce a few of our new staff members 'virtually'!

Miss Edgar was previously a Teacher of English and Deputy Head of the Lower School at Eltham College, London. She is pleased to be back in York where she studied for her undergraduate degree at the University of York. "I am absolutely thrilled to be working at St Peter’s School. The students are energetic, enthusiastic and I feel enormously privileged to be sharing brilliant texts with them such as ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula.’ I think we’ve found something to smile about in every lesson and it has been such a pleasure to be back in the classroom.

"I love the busy atmosphere of the school and the wealth of things that staff and students alike can get involved in. My Third Form tutor group in Clifton House have been wonderful allies as we have got settled into new routines together. They are excellent company, whatever the weather and no matter the early start, and I look forward to seeing them each day."

We are delighted to welcome Old Peterite Mr D Shread (Clifton 2012) who has joined as a Business and Economics teacher following his father's departure after 35 years at St Peter's School. Mr D Shread said "One of the greatest careers in life is to become a teacher and at St Peter’s my father performed that role to the full for the last 35 years. I hope that I can have as enjoyable time at St Peter’s as he did. I have the advantage of being an OP and it is a privilege to continue in the finest traditions of the School."

Miss Kilsby joins St Peter’s from St Aidan's School in Harrogate. She has a degree in Geography from the University of Newcastle and a PGCE from Leeds Beckett University. During her time at St Aidan’s, she took on many different roles at both department and whole school level. These included planning local day trips into the Yorkshire Dales, supporting Sixth form trips to Iceland and Liverpool along with coaching hockey teams and organising Gold Duke of Edinburgh.

"On arriving at St Peter’s in September I have been greeted with nothing but smiles and encouragement. The Geography team I have joined are outstanding and it is an ongoing pleasure to deliver such a diverse curriculum to all year groups. I am particularly enjoying working with the Upper Sixth pupils on their NEA projects and exploring York’s rich geographical history with the Third Form.

"I was also thrilled to become a Fourth Form tutor in School House. Being part of such an enthusiastic, engaging pastoral team makes each start to the day that little bit more exciting. Over the next year I plan to explore the wealth of co-curricular opportunities offered here at St Peter’s, starting with joining the CCF team in the new year.

St Peters’ is a very busy place but no matter where you look or who you speak to there is always a sense of joy and happiness amongst the staff and students.

Aruna Jung is joining St Peter's School this year as a German teaching assistant, continuing our long association with the University of Regensburg. Originally from the alpine border near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Aruna studies Education and English in Bavaria.

Aruna said "I am very happy about the opportunity to participate in this incredibly friendly and multifarious school community by working with students on their German speaking skills and giving them insight into the culture behind the language."
