Year 1 have had the most amazing term, learning about Asia with their theme ‘Grab your backpack and go travelling’. Their learning centred around their core text, Elephants of the Tsunami. They have been chefs, explorers, artists, inventors, builders and much more.
The children learnt all about the mistreatment of elephants in Asia and became incredibly passionate about this cause. They even made a Zoom call to Phuket Elephant Sanctuary to find out more about these amazing creatures and what they can do to help.
Year 1 even designed models of elephant sanctuaries to raise awareness of the importance of treating animals in a positive way. Aflie said "We have been saving the elephants by making an important video to spread around the world"
The children also wrote and illustrated very own version of their core text, Elephants of the Tsunami.
The children have been sewing elephants, painting elephant canvases, making curry pastes, planting terrariums, making batik bags, writing stories, writing recipes and creating videos to share their knowledge with the world. They are hoping to raise as much money as they can to buy happy meals for the elephants at the sanctuary.
