Junior Duke
This year saw a total of 11 pupils at St Peter's 8-13 complete the Junior Duke awards. This is the first-time pupils from this school have undertaken these challenges and they completed a range of personal challenges including First-Aid, swim, cookery, domestic challenges, caring for others, puncture repair, litter picking, volunteering, budgeting, making a presentation and many other fun things! We were delighted to see 5 silver awards, 6 gold awards and one platinum award being achieved at various point throughout the year.

Mrs Hick said 'the awards have offered the pupils a chance to take control and be independent in organising themselves and even sometimes their families into carrying out certain tasks. Some of the most popular challenges were cookery where lots of wonderful bread was baked and the eco-challenge where so many different fruit and vegetables were planted, grown, and cared for. I'm excited to see how many pupils have the resilience, motivation and perseverance to take on the Junior Duke award next year.

On pupil said, 'I've really enjoyed having the excuse to complete the challenges with my family-it has been so much fun!'

Kangaroo
Earlier this term 7 pupils from J4 and J5 took part in the UKMT Junior Kangaroo maths competition. Entry to the Challenge is by invitation only and is based on a qualifying score,  in the UKMT JMC held earlier in the year. Three pupils (Niaomi (J4), Hannah (J4) and William (J5) secure Merits for their success in solving high-quality problems which are designed to encourage mathematical thinking.

Results from the Junior Maths Olympiad are due to follow in September.

First Maths Challenge
Recently all of J1 sat the national First Maths Challenge (FMC)  competition, a twenty question multiple choice problems paper. All pupils achieved a certificate with Bertie gaining a perfect score and eight others achieving a gold award. Congratulations to all of our pupils, we are glad that you enjoyed your first maths competition at St Peter's!
