Beautiful music echoed in chapel, with the diverse talents of our senior pupils. Following the rounds before half-term, we had an outstanding Senior Music Festival Final last night. Our adjudicator was Durham University’s Alasdair Jamieson, who spoke highly of the performances and was very impressed by the standard.
The winners of the categories were as follows:
Girls’ Singing – Grace, who performed This Day by Chilcott.
Strings – Joe, who performed Symphonie Espagnole (1st movement) by Lalo.
Piano – Jimmy, who performed Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata (3rd movement).
Brass – Will, who performed Tico Tico by Abreu.
Boys’ Singing – John, who performed Vouchsafe O Lord, by Handel
Woodwind - Miranda, who performed Una lagrima sulla tomba, by Cavallani.
Guitar – Lisha and Amelia. Lisha performed Prelude No.3 by Villa-Lobos and Amelia performed Prelude (Cello Suite No.3) by Bach.
Percussion – Bertie, who performed A Storm in a Teacup by Gledhill.
Some other standout performances included:
The Winner Takes it All, sung by Maddie.
Elégie Op 143, performed by Edward on the Violin.
Elégie, Op 44, performed by Eunice on the Viola.
The winner of the Senior Music Festival Prize for this year was Joe, for a virtuosic performance of the first movement of Symphonie Espagnole by Lalo on the violin. What was even more impressive about this performance, was that Joe performed it from memory!
Congratulations everyone.
