Jimmy and Thomas from Third Form have been nominated to join the prestigious York Mathematical Excellence Club in recognition of their mathematical skills.
York Mathematical Excellence Club (y=mx+c) is aimed at the most able young mathematicians in the city. The nominees must be top mathematicians with a real passion for the subject.
In normal circumstances, meetings are held on Wednesday evenings at the University of York. Currently, however, sessions are being held remotely.
At the virtual meetings, pupils will have the opportunity to discuss and discover advanced maths topics with likeminded pupils from years 8 and 9. They will also be assigned a coach who is a current Maths undergraduate from the University of York.
In each session pupils will learn new concepts, solve mathematical challenges and research and present new ideas to each other. The experience will enhance not only their mathematical knowledge but also their confidence, teamwork, presentation and research skills.
