Sixth Form Geography pupils have been exploring York and the Yorkshire coastline this term to collect data for an investigation they have designed.
An essential part of the AQA Geography A level is an independent investigation and our pupils have been investigating urban and coastal landscapes close to York, from Bootham to Bridlington.
The pupils have been investigating
- pollution patterns in York (noise, air and heat)
- whether York was at risk of becoming a clone town
- whether Derwenthorpe is a sustainable development model
- how our local environment affects our emotions
- the effect of the groynes at Hornsea
- to what extent the sand dunes at Bridlington have been damaged by humans
Last week the pupils visited Flamborough Head to look at landforms and carry out a beach survey.
Mrs Hall, Head of Geography, said "The pupils had a great day, enjoying being out of the classroom and seeing their studies come to life in the real world. They were positive and resilient throughout the day, despite some chilly weather and hail showers!"
