St Peter's 2-8

The Sunday Times Parent Power list has once again listed St Peter’s School, York in the top 100 independent schools in the UK, second across the North of England and the top-ranked independent school in the City of York.

Parent Power ranks the best independent schools in the UK and this year The Sunday Times describes York as having “perhaps the best education provision of any city in the North” and as being “one of the UK’s educational hotspots.”

St Peter’s School’s ranking is based on 2019 exam results, with 84.6% of pupils at St Peter’s achieving A*-B at A Level and 68.7% achieving grades 9-7 (A*/A) at GCSE. In 2020, 92% of pupils achieved A*-B at A Level and 78.8% of pupils achieved grades 9-7 (A*/A) at GCSE based on Centre Assessed Grades.

St Peter’s has long-been recognised as one of the top schools in the country. The School was named The Sunday Times North Independent Second School of the Year 2019 and also appeared 14th in the Best Schools Guide list of top 20 UK Co-Ed boarding schools for 2019 based on A-level results, A* and A grades obtained and the number of pupils with exam success.

St Peter’s is proud to work in partnership with other independent and state schools in York as part of the York Independent State Schools Partnership (ISSP). The partnership brings together three independent schools and nine state schools including Fulford School, which has been named as The Sunday Times UK Comprehensive School of the Decade. Together, these schools seek to provide exceptional opportunities for pupils across York.

Headmaster, Jeremy Walker said of the 2021 Parent Power List:

It is very rewarding to see the excellence of St Peter’s recognised once again as one of the top schools in the country and a leader of education in the North of England.  Our pupils do achieve remarkable success in public examinations, but it is the huge range of skills, interests and values which they develop in and out of the classroom which sets them up for a confident, fulfilled life where they will make a positive impact on their world.  York is a fantastic place with a wealth of opportunities, and I am delighted to see fellow schools in the city also being recognised.
