Pupils at St Peter’s 8-13 have extended their weekly Virtualosity Concert to include all ensembles in the school.
The pupils have been performing virtually as part of the Music Department’s Virtualosity concert series since April. The performances proved so popular that the weekly concerts have continued for family and friends to enjoy from home.
The Virtualosity concerts usually feature solo performances from individual pupils, but the Music Department were determined to showcase the school’s fantastic ensembles with a special Christmas performance.
107 pupils participated in the Ensembles Virtualosity Concert which can be viewed at the end of this news story. Each ensemble was recorded separately to comply with social distancing regulations and the performances have been edited together to create a virtual concert.
The concert included String Ensembles from J1, J2, J3, J4 and J5, Wind Bands from J1, J3 and J4, Brass Ensembles from J3, J4 and J5, the J2 Flute Duo, the J5 Cello Ensemble and a J1 Duet.
Mrs Holly Craven, Director of Music at St Peter’s 8-13, said: “Our pupils have all risen to the challenge admirably, and my thanks go to all the peripatetic music teachers for such incredible work with the children. It is worth pointing out that in September, some of these children had only just picked up instruments for the first time, some had never played in an ensemble before, and none of them had experienced any ensemble playing since March. I am hugely proud of them all.”
