We were delighted to welcome Lorna Bell, a Registered Associate Nutritionist from catering consultancy ISCC, for an inspiring talk with J1 on the benefits of healthy eating and the gut microbiome.
The session was both engaging and educational, with pupils actively participating in a 'mindful eating' exercise using blueberries. Using the Eatwell Guide as a point of reference, Lorna explored the role of macronutrients and their vital functions in the body, sparking some thoughtful discussions.
Our pupils impressed Lorna with their knowledge of the gut microbiome, showcasing how they apply these principles in real life. They used the school's catering service to highlight the diverse plant-based foods available at lunchtime, demonstrating how they can nourish their gut health through informed choices.
The talk concluded with a lively and in-depth Q&A session, where pupils had the opportunity to test their knowledge, ask insightful questions, and build upon their already impressive understanding of nutrition.
Lorna also had a look at our menus at St Peter's and spoke with Craig Robinson who manages catering and hospitality. She said,
To summarise, there is clear evidence of passion for fresh food and variety across St Peters. There is already a strong foundation for nutritious food.
Mr. Robinson was in attendance at Lorna's talk and took her advice to help aid the school's constant pursuit of excellence in every dish served. He said:
Following on from Lorna's visit and feedback from analysis of our menus, we are continuing to work hard to ensure that our menus across all three schools are as tasty, healthy and nutritious as possible.
A huge thank you to Lorna for an engaging and thought-provoking session. To learn more about catering at St Peter's, please see the dedicated webpage here.
