The Eco Club have developed a handy guide for the waste-conscious to help people have a greener Christmas this year.
The Eco Club have been meeting virtually this term to create their Eco Club Guide to Christmas, with tips on shopping, how to wrap your gifts and minimise waste.
The Guide includes lots of innovative ideas including the ‘scrunch test’ and creating gift tags from recycled Christmas cards. We’ve included some ideas from the Eco- Club below:
- Make and Bake – bake at home instead of buying processed food with lots of packaging
- Leftovers – transform leftovers to create new meals, save money and reduce waste
- Cut Down on Meat – try going ‘meat free’ for a couple of days over the Christmas holidays
- Shop Locally – buying products from local suppliers is more sustainable
- Use the Scrunch Test – if your wrapping paper stays scrunched up it can be recycled
- Recycle – why not make gift labels from last year’s Christmas cards?
- Deck the Halls – create your own reusable Christmas decorations. Try to use natural materials wherever possible and avoid buying decorations that can’t be recycled.
- Christmas Gifts – choose environmentally friendly presents and consider gifting an experience to create longer lasting memories.
Watch the video below for more useful tips. Have yourself a greener little Christmas and remember… Christmas presents shouldn’t cost the earth.
