St Peter's 2-8 Christmas

The whole St Peter's School community has come together to celebrate Christmas, after what has been an unusual year.

Parents, staff and pupils have found unique and innovative ways to show they care this Christmas, despite social distancing regulations.

All teachers and support staff have received a handwritten Christmas card from parents, who sent a total of 400 cards to St Peter's staff. Parents wanted to thank staff for the remote teaching and learning programme delivered during lockdown and for everything they have done since September to keep the children safe.

Meanwhile, children across the school from 2-18 have worn Christmas jumpers to celebrate the last week of term and we have seen some excellent jumper designs and even festive face masks! Usually the pupils wear Christmas jumpers on the last day of term to mark Christmas Jumper Day, but this year Head Master Mr jeremy Walker announced that pupils and staff could wear their favourite festive knits for a whole week.

Throughout the school, gifts and cards have also been delivered safely to pupils before they leave for the Christmas holidays. At St Peter's 2-8, all children have received a sweet treat from the catering team, whilst at St Peter's 8-13 pupils have been posting cards for their friends in a special mailbox organised by the Year 8 Heads of House.

At St Peter's 13-18, Mr Paddy Stephen has also continued an annual tradition, dressing up as Father Christmas to hand out small gifts and chocolates to pupils. The tradition was first started 40 years ago by Jackie and her mother, members of our catering team.

The staff at St Peter's have worked incredibly hard this year, with teachers adapting to the challenges of remote teaching and learning and support staff working hard to ensure that the school is a safe and clean environment for all. The catering team have been particularly busy as we approach the end of term, serving 1,450 Christmas dinners to our hungry day and boarding pupils as we approach the Christmas holidays!

To mark the end of term, and to say thank you, teachers and support staff will enjoy socially distanced drinks and nibbles on the afternoon of Friday 11 December.

Mr Jeremy Walker, Head Master of St Peter’s School, said:

The run up to Christmas feels even more special than usual this year and pupils, staff and parents at St Peter’s have been treated to the most wonderful array of events.  I am proud to say that the St Peter’s community is stronger than ever despite the many challenges that we have faced this year.
