This week we joined together as a school community to mark Anti-Bullying Week from 15-19 November.
This year the theme was ‘One Kind Word’ and pupils across the school have been focusing on the importance of kindness and inclusion through a variety of activities, including PSHE lessons and assemblies.
Pupils at St Peter’s 8-13 have created a wall of kindness to inspire us all to act and speak kindly and pupils aged 2-18 collaborated to create a special video where they shared their favourite kind word.
In their PSHE lessons pupils at St Peter's 2-8 wrote kind words onto luggage labels to describe people. On Friday the pupils went home with a luggage label written by another child in school as an act of kindness. They were truly wonderful to read, with messages such as ‘you are unstoppable’. It’s incredibly heart- warming to know that children so young have the ability and initiative to inspire such positivity.
All pupils were also encouraged to participate in our annual ‘odd socks and shoes day’ to remind us that we are all different.
Mr Jeremy Walker, Head Master of St Peter’s School, York, said: “Of all the things that happen at school, learning to be kind is one of the most important. Words can wound but they can also give comfort and confidence and anti-bullying week is a great opportunity to bring this to the fore.”
