We are absolutely delighted to announce that St Peter's pupil, Rachael, has accepted an offer to study clarinet and saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music for September 2022, following auditions in December. She is currently studying on the junior RNCM programme and chose this conservatoire from a number of offers that she received. Rachael has been at St Peter’s since the age of nine and has developed into a highly accomplished soloist and ensemble player. She currently leads our Swing Band and is an essential part of our Clarinet Choir, Saxophone Quartet and Wind Band. She also sings in our School and Chapel Choirs and the Girls’ Barbershop. Rachael has been taking clarinet and saxophone lessons with our specialist Mr Bayley throughout her time at St Peter’s, guiding her to a distinction in her ARSM clarinet diploma in June 2021. She is preparing for her ARSM saxophone at the moment.
Rachael is a natural performer with an ability to cross genres. She is as comfortable playing Mozart on the clarinet as she is improvising freely through a complicated chord chart in the Swing Band on saxophone. We are incredibly proud of Rachael’s achievements and look forward to hearing more performances in the next two terms.
Rachael said: ‘It’s truly rewarding to see my commitment and dedication to music result in an incredible offer. I have found the audition process both challenging and exciting, and look forward to the future immensely’.
Mr Miles-Kingston, Director of Music at St Peter's School, said:‘I am thrilled to hear this news. Rachael is a fantastic young musician and so hard-working. She is a great example of the many musical pupils who develop throughout their time at St Peter’s into fine performers and she is an inspiration to the younger pupils who follow in her footsteps.’
