Pupils and staff at St Peter’s School united from 16 – 20 November to raise awareness of bullying. The school marked Anti-Bullying Week with a range of activities inspired by this year’s theme ‘Unite Against Bullying’.
All pupils aged 2-18 were encouraged to wear odd socks and shoes on Monday 16 November to celebrate difference and diversity.
At St Peter’s 2-8, children heard a story or carried out an activity each day to help them consider how they could play their part to unite against bullying. Children made pledges to speak out, include everyone, use kind words, respect other people, celebrate differences and treat people equally. Year 3 enjoyed watching an iMovie that they made in 2017 when they were in Reception entitled All Different, All Equal. The film encouraged them to reflect on how they have played their part to ensure school is a safe and happy place for everyone.
Pupils at St Peter’s 8-13 had year group assemblies on anti-bullying themes and discussed bullying issues in PSHE. The weekly focus for the whole school was ‘Stand Up; Speak Out’, encouraging pupils to speak out against bullying or any unkind behaviour they notice. The weekly assembly on Friday from Master Mr Andy Falconer also addressed the anti-bullying theme.
At St Peter’s 13-18, pupils also discussed the impact of bullying in class and the value of difference and diversity. Mr Jeremy Walker’s Head Master’s Assembly celebrated the importance of community at St Peter’s School, focusing on the sense of “unity, spirit and common purpose” that pupils have shown through recent House events.
Pupils were also reminded that there is always someone to talk to at St Peter’s. The school’s dedicated Listening Space is available for all pupils whilst the House System creates a pastoral support network in which pupils feel nurtured and valued.
