Monday 8 February saw another of our 'OPs Online' events take place, this time bringing together Old Peterites and pupils for a Negotiation Workshop hosted by Old Peterite Philip Brown (The Rise 1990), who runs The Negotiation Club.
Philip had a career in procurement before going on to develop The Negotiation Club. Philip offers clubs and events that allow people to successfully practise and develop their negotiation skills in interactive workshops and groups, which because of lockdown Philip has successfully converted to doing entirely online. The workshops and taster sessions were designed with businesses and universities in mind, but this has been a great opportunity to have pupils involved and practicing their negotiation skills, and Philip has generously been giving his time to offer sessions to Old Peterites throughout lockdown.
On Monday evening five pupils from the Young Enterprise Group met with Old Peterites (two of whom were overseas in Canada and the USA) for this online event. The workshop was fun and interactive, using Philip's specially designed negotiation cards giving everyone taking part the chance to practice real negotiation skills. As everyone did their best to get the best deal on their tonne of apples, some excellent back stories were invented, and Philip gave great practical feedback and observations for everyone to work on for future negotiations.
It was a great opportunity to show the pupils what the Old Peterite Community has to offer and for the Old Peterites to hear about how the pupils will apply the negotiation skills they are learning to their Young Enterprise ventures.
