Keep on Running!
Our caring school community recently donated used or unwanted trainers for charity and there is quite a pile ready to be collected in reception. St Peter’s staff certainly wear out trainers between them. Take selfless Ms Partridge, Mr Lomax, Ms Edgar & Ms Watters, who are all running the London Marathon on April 23 for charities including Mencap and St Leonard’s Hospice.
Old Peterite, Alison Pike, is the current Executive Director of Inclusive Communities and Partnerships at Mencap, a charity which is passionate about changing the world for everyone with a learning disability, campaigning alongside people with a learning disability to make society fairer and to make sure their voices are heard. We spoke to Alison, who in the past has also run the London Marathon, about her career progression since leaving St Peter’s School. She said that “St Peter’s gave me the confidence to follow the things that I was interested in and cared about. I think I left school with a strong sense of who I was as well as confidence in building relationships and networks (and good grades which always helps!). I think it gave me the confidence to seek out a career that I wanted – rather than just follow trends/what other people did – and it perhaps made me realise how lucky and privileged I was in having such a brilliant education. I want to make sure the opportunities I was given are available to more people.” Alison discussed how she believes in “equity, justice and social change”, explaining how there is “still a lot to do for people with a learning disability who face huge inequalities across all areas of their lives.”
Current Graduate Sports Assistant, Sam Lomax, will be running in aid of Mencap, having almost surpassed his target of £2500. With over a week until the race, we are confident he will beat his target!
We are so proud of our members of staff. Best of luck to all runners & enjoy - we will be cheering you on!
