At St Peter's 8-13, the whole of J3 are usually involved in a large-scale musical production during the Easter Term. Usually, rehearsals start in December and pupils practise all the way up to Easter. This year pupils are aiming high and are determined to put on their own adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in just three weeks!
Due to Covid, pupils will not be singing in the production. Ms Veasey was also unable to cast and rehearse in the same way, holding the auditions online instead. Pupils are even making their own props and costumes due to the usual theatrical hire places being closed due to lockdown.
There are 90 pupils (4 full classes) involved in the production, which has been split into four parts so that each of the J3 classes has their own section of the story to tell.
The pupils are working really hard, with rehearsals after school and Saturday afternoons.
The performance will be recorded by Mr Falconer, Head of St Peter's 8-13, so that family and friends can watch the show from home.
The Director of the play, Ms Veasey, said: “We really wanted to give our J3s the experience of a school production, however different it is to our usual way of doing things. With such a tight timescale the children will certainly have earned their Easter eggs if they can pull this off!”
